2016 was a year to remember and not to forget in Amuwo Odofin Local Government as various happenings occurred but FestacOnline List 6 Major Happenings that Shook the community .
1. Festac / Amuwo Fire Incidents 2016
2016 Recorded no less than 5 Fire Incidents which occurred in the community and destroyed properties worth millions of Naira, left many homeless and lives were lost.
August 13 , block of flats at Eko Akette Road was razed to ashes, September 4th 2016, a house was destroyed on 21rd The occupants were in church . That same month , September 14th 2016 , A baby was burnt beyond recognition in Hakeem Agboola Estatae , Amuwo Odofin.
On 13 October 2016, Fire outbreak at a Mart-New Supermarket Festac Town, on 41 road, Omole Plaza.Also December 30th 2016, a flat was razed by fire on 5th Avenue Festac Town , Lagos.
These are just few fire incidents and the fire services were of no good due to their delayed and late response time , also owing to the fact that the assumed fire services in the community is non-functional.
2. Fuel Scarcity + Civil Defence Shooting Tragedy
April 16 2016, during the fuel-scarcity period , a Civil defence officer allegedly shot and killed a fuel black marketer, identified as Dijo, in front of the Forte Oil located at 21 road area of FESTAC Town, Lagos State which also left three others with varying degree of injuries as the victims were hit by stray bullets.
It was a hell of a day as angry youths / mob tried to retaliate but the operatives were already whisked away to safety. However, attempts to set Forte Oil on fire was prevented by teams of policemen deployed from both the FESTAC Police Division and the Area E Police Command.
“One person was shot dead while three others were severely injured. The area E commander is on ground restoring normalcy while the command has commenced investigation to identify the civil defence operatives who were involved.
The fourth edition of the annual Music Festival Lagos took place on the 18th of March 2016 at Golden Tulip Hotel, Festac .
Some of the Artist who performed include: Kcee, Harrysong, D’banj, Majek Fashek, Wande Coal, Sound Sultan, Orisefemi, Terry G, Seyi Law, AY, Basketmouth, Ycee, Viktoh, Humblesmith, Koker, Iyanya, Stereoman and others.
4.Kidnap Of Residents
50-year-old Customs official, Mrs. Comfort Alaba, was kidnapped by unknown gunmen at around 8pm December 28th at 22 road . It was a major news but thank God she was released days after.
The maiden edition of the Festac Food Fair was a huge success, The Festac Food Fair which is an initiative of FestacOnline.com.ng, a community based platform which is set to bring positive change to the Amuwo Odofin community and country at large.
The food and sales exhibition, the first of its kind which took place in the heart of Festac Town, Lagos brought together Food and Drink Vendors as well as residents and visitors.
30th December 2016 saw to gathering thousands of attendees at the Festac Music Festival 2016 which held at the popular FHA Sports Ground , 23 rd , Festac Town Lagos.
