Fire In Festac 3rd Avenue
On the evening of 1st of August 2016 , O close 3rd avenue was thrown into panic as one of the Semi-duplex in the close caught fire.
According to festacOnline source , it was the house before the hospital that caught fire and it was almost affecting the roof of the hospital. The affected house was the semi-duplex for House 1 & 3 which also houses an hospital.
The fire started at around 6pm from the landlord’s sons room and he was at home when the fire broke out . It is still unconfirmed what caused the fire , but some still insist it was electrical fault.
it wasn’t certain what really triggered the fire , 1 & 3 caught fire. The fire spread , destroying the ceiling & roof of two rooms upstairs behind.
Members of the LRU were present to help out, even when the fire flared up again .The terrible and sad part is that the Fire services for Festac Town is just less than a kilometre ,a two minute walk from the scene , on the same road. There was no response from the fire service personnel.
The Fire service is just less than a kilometre from the fire incidence and nothing was done to solve the issue.
At about 9:30pm – 10:00pm the fire was putt out , no lives were lost and affected family counting their loss.
Hon Dipo Olorunrinu , Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Amuwo-Odofin Constituency 1 took to twitter to express his disappointment on the negligence of the Fire services and wanting them brought to book .
He said it is the 5th recorded fire incident in my constituency & festac , Lagos State Fire Service division complain of no water, equipment, you must explain
Lives and property are at risk in festac town and Amuwo-Odofin in general , there have been several fire incidents that have occurred . One was the Fire that gutted a semi-duplex on a Sunday when the family wasn’t around , also the Other Fire incident which gutted 4 flats completely rendering residents homeless and properties and belongings worth millions of Naira also gone as there was no response fro fire service in festac . Giving the same excuses of no water and equipments.
Residents of Amuwo Odofin Local Government deserve better service from Lagos State Fire Services in saving lives and properties as it could happen to anyone.
