It was a tug of war on Thursday in Festac Town as more than 200 Motorcycles popularly called Okada were seized and impounded by the Lagos State Task Force.
The task force seized over 200 motorcycle bikes in festac which were commercial.
According to newsbreakng, 29 Riders were arrested at both Festac & Mile2.
Olayinka Egbeyemi, chairman of the task force team, explained that they had received series of complaints from residents on criminal activities perpetuated by some of these motorcycle operators, like snatching of bags, phones, wallets and jewelries around these areas at night.
He, however, said the acting Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi had directed that 29 arrested motorcycle operators be immediately charged to court for prosecutions.
A resident took to Twitter to complain bitterly of this action,
When these guys start robbery, they wouldn’t go to the government official’s houses who sent them to the streets..it’s the average citizens struggling to earn a living from a regular job that will suffer from the incompetence of the government. – Twitter Resident
While another resident of the area, Lukumon Lateef commended the agency for responding promptly to their complaints.
people living around 2nd Rainbow area and Mile 2 Estate towards Festac could no longer sleep with their eyes closed due to criminal activities perpetuated by some of the motorcycle operators.
most of the commercial motorcycle operators were illegal immigrants from neighbouring West African Countries who could not communicate in English.
Egbeyemi urged members of the public to desist from patronizing commercial motorcycle operators on restricted routes as anyone arrested would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Another Resident also lamented
the guys hustling to stay off the streets now sent back to the streets with the government’s inability to provide jobs.
Some say it started as a result of refusal of arrest by some hausa okada riders which led to the mass seizure.
Effort to reach the Lagos state task force seemed futile.
