Looking back 14 years ago at the former Durbar Hotel, Festac, Lagos and now we can say that development has taken charge kudos to UPDC who acquired the property under the privatisation programme of the Federal Government .

The dream was to turn the abandoned hotel and its premises into a tourist destination that will reshape the entire landscape of Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos according the Managing Director of UPDC Plc, Mr. Hakeem Ogunniran.

Today that dream has come to reality as UACN Property Development Company (UPDC) Plc, Frontline real estate developer has finally delivered The Residences building project to the community as well as Lagos at large. so we can all move in . 

The Residences is an eight-storey block of flats consisting of 198 apartments comprising 154 one-bedroom and 44 two-bedroom on eight floors Located within the former Durba Hotel, now Golden Tulip Festac Hotel, Janet Fajemigbesin Street, Off Festac Link Road, Amuwo Odofin

The block which was part of the former Durbar Hotel, was  renovated into luxury apartments with prominent facilities in the apartments include borehole and treatment plant, independent power plant, gas infrastructure, HVC cooling system, sewage treatment plant and fire-fighting sprinklers.

Close-circuit television cameras CCTV is installed in each floor of the building and at the security point on the ground floor to ensure that unwanted persons do not gain access into the building.

During the  Unveiling of the project , UPDC’s Managing Director, Mr. Hakeem Ogunniran, said the project was created from

“Our desire to create a truly-mixed real estate development that will offer comfortable and best-in-class residential, commercial and retail accommodation.” The initiative is the first of its kind in Lagos and consists of Golden Tulip Festac, Festival Mall and The Residences, which consist of three wings of eight floors.

 When we acquired this place, it had been abandoned for almost 8 to 10 years, only the former Durbar Hotel stood here. We set out with a desire to create a work, live and play environment in this place and we are glad that with the commissioning of The Residences apartments, that dream has become a reality.- Ogunniran said

Today, we have 198 apartments which we have put in the market and we are gratified that about 50% of the units have been bought.

The commissioner for housing who commended Ogunniran and the management of UPDC Plc for embarking on the various projects of high class at Amuwo-Odofin, noted that the projects would have provided jobs for a lot of people during their construction and finishing stages.

Prior to the commissioning ceremony, the Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Prince Gbolahan Lawal, who commended UPDC for the project and the initiative, said the project, was in line with the state government’s drive to cushion the effects of housing challenge in Lagos.

 

Speaking on The Residences, UPDC’s General Manager, Sales and Marketing, Mrs. Titi Gbadamosi, said it was created from UPDC’s desire to have a truly mixed real estate development that will offer comfortable and best-in-class residential, commercial and retail accommodation.
